Summer holidays are a time for making memories - relaxing by the pool, taking a dip in the sea, and enjoying warm days with friends and family. But if you wear a wig, you might be wondering: can I swim with my wig on? Can I wear my wig in a swimming pool? And how do I protect my wig from chlorine or salt water?
The answer is: yes, you can wear your wig to swim in a pool - but we recommend being mindful about keeping your wig hair protected from the water.
At Amber Jean, our wigs are made with high-quality human hair and designed to give you confidence, comfort and freedom. However, just like natural hair, wig hair can be affected by chlorine, salt water, sun exposure and repeated soaking. With the right care, you can still enjoy your summer holiday without worrying about your wig.
Can I swim in a swimming pool wearing my wig?
We don’t recommend fully submerging your Amber Jean wig in the pool. Chlorine can dry out human hair, affect the softness of the hair over time and make it more difficult to maintain the beautiful condition of your wig.
Salt water can also have a drying effect on human hair, especially when combined with sun exposure.
Instead, our preferred way to enjoy pool days while wearing your wig is to secure your wig up and away from the water using a claw clip.

The best way to wear your wig for the pool
The easiest and most wig-friendly way to enjoy your holiday is to style your wig into an updo and secure it with an Amber Jean claw clip.
A claw clip allows you to keep the lengths of the hair safely tucked away without worrying about your wig getting wet.
When swimming, it is important to make sure all of the hair is clipped up and secured. Unlike everyday styling, where you may leave some pieces loose for a softer look, around the pool you want to avoid any hair hanging down where it could accidentally get dipped into the water.

Can I wear a swim cap over my wig?
Some people prefer to wear a swim cap for extra protection, and this is an option. However, we would recommend using your backup wig or a non-Amber Jean piece if you plan on swimming with a swim cap.
A swim cap can create pressure and friction against the wig, and if water does get inside, your wig hair could still be exposed to chlorine or salt water.
For regular swimming, we recommend choosing a wig that you don’t mind getting wet rather than your main Amber Jean piece.
What should I do if my wig gets wet?
If your wig accidentally gets splashed or wet, don’t panic. Gently rinse the hair with clean, fresh water as soon as possible to help remove any chlorine or salt residue.
Avoid rubbing the hair, and allow your wig to dry naturally. Once dry, you can gently brush through it and use your Amber Jean Wig Care products to help restore softness and shine.
Enjoy your holiday with confidence
Your wig should help you feel like yourself - not stop you from enjoying life. Whether you’re travelling, relaxing by the pool, or heading on a summer getaway, a little preparation can help you feel comfortable and confident.
Our advice is simple: wear your wig, enjoy your holiday, clip your hair up, and keep your wig away from the water whenever possible.
Because summer memories matter - and your wig should be part of them.
